Welcome to Ladybirds Class

Ladybirds Class have had great fun exploring the topic ‘Superheroes this half term.

In English we have been exploring the book ‘Eliot Midnight Superhero’. We have learnt the story off by heart and tried to improve it with exciting adjectives and conjunctions. We have been making sure we use our ‘every time I write’ rules to ensure we leave finger spaces between words, capital letters at the beginning of sentences and full stops at the end. We got the opportunity to share our wonderful stories with the children in Hedgehogs class and listened to their versions as well.

In Phonics we have been learning a new phase 5 sound each day. With the year 1 phonics check fast approaching, we have been working hard to read real and nonsense words. Putting our sound buttons under each word is really helping us with our blending. Our phonics learning is making a difference in our reading and we are becoming much more confident in tackling new words. Please listen to us read at home so we can show you how much we are progressing.

In Maths we have been learning all about numbers within 50. We have been comparing, sequencing and ordering numbers and are looking forward to adding and subtracting numbers within 50. We have all been trying hard to recognise the tens and the ones in each number as well as forming our numbers correctly.

This half term we have enjoyed, a visit from a paramedic, creating our own printing tiles inspired by Andy Warhol and finding out about Neil Armstrong.

We are loving learning in Year 1. Please ask us about all the fun things we do each day!
